How To Prevent Spider Veins

Spider veins can pop up on the back of your calves or the inside of your legs. They look kind of like a spider web and are red or blue in color. Spider veins are caused by increased pressure on your legs and poor leg circulation.

Spider veins can be caused by:

  • Crossing your legs (slower blood flow)
  • Sit or stand for long periods (try to move them from time to time)
  • Smoking
  • Tight clothes that may cut your blood circulation (skinny jeans)
  • Taking hot baths/showers for a long period of time or sauna

  1. Exercise regularly to improve your leg strength, circulation, and vein strength

  3. Elevate your legs every night before bed or while watching tv
  4. Lay on your back and do bicycle movements
  5. While sitting/standing for long periods keep your feet moving
  6. Circular movements with your feet while sitting
  7. Go for a short walk in your lunch break and after work
  8. Avoid soaking in hot baths for long periods of time
  9. Take a cold shower after for your legs (will strengthen your vein walls)
  10. Cool your legs on hot summer days (ice roller, ice cubes, cold towel/water)
  11. Wear sunscreen every day (especially to prevent spider veins on your face)
  12. While sleeping position your legs so that they rest a little higher than your head (put a pillow below your necks or so)
  13. Not pretty but wearing compression stockings to reduce the appearance of spider veins (cheap options on Amazon) especially recommended on longer flights

How to prevent spider veins while sitting/standing for a long time (more than 30 minutes)

While sitting raise your legs and circle alternately inwards and outwards with both feet – keep moving, you can do that everywhere at work, while waiting for the bus…

While standing: Go on your tiptoes and back again several times

  • Täglich Sonnenschutz (vor allem bei Adern im Gesicht)
  • Während dem Schalfen Beine etwas höher als Kopf positionieren (z.B. Kissen drunter legen)
  • Kompressionsstrümpfe v.a. bei langen Flugreisen empfehlenswert

Bewegung ist das A & O im Kampf gegen Besenreiser

Während dem Sitzen: Kreisende Bewegungen mit den Füßen, wippende Bewegungen aus den Knien heraus

Während dem Stehen: Hintereinander auf die Zehenspitzen und zurück

Natürliche Methoden gegen Besenreiser

  1. Apfelessig getränktes Tuch

Für 20-30 min auf die betroffene Stelle legen währenddessen z.B. Netflix schauen.

Diese Methode hat sich als sehr effektiv erwisen, da es die Durchblutung anregt und geschwollene Venen verringert.

  1. Täglich 1 TL Apfelessig trinken
  2. Ingwertee 2 Mal täglich trinken
